South Dakota

Over this summer I went to South Dakota with my church. We drove 16 hours to The Black hills and we went to Mt. Rushmore on our way there. When we got to the camp we were staying at it was called Atlantic Mountain Ranch, we eat and slept there. The placethat we worked was an hour way. When we got there we help special needs kids ride horses. It was so must fun. We have a lot of fun with 10 girls and 40 hours of driving in a 15 passenger van.

Spech Reflection

I thought that I did fine. That I did not look up enough. I also thought that I need to talk slower. One more thing that I need to work on is I need to study my speech better. Over all I thought that I did okay.

A Day No Pigs Would Die

While reading the book "A Day No Pigs Would Die" it was very eye opening because it thought you many moral lessons. For example one said by Heaven Peck the most important thing is not what you have or what you want but what you do in life. Also how much Rob matured though out the book is outstanding in about one year he went from being a boy to a man of the house that is a big responsibility. When you have to watch your dad, kill your best friend and your pet right under your nose. That has to lay heavy on your heart for the rest of your life. If I had to bury my mother or father I could not do it because I do not have the courage of the heart to see them like that it would kill my insides. After I was done reading the book I was sad and depressed because of Rob must have feeling in the end but at the same time I was kind of happy because now Rob can see all the little thing in life now.

The Third Wish

Although the old man is very pleased with his life there is just one thing he wants. He feels lonely and would like someone to be there with him in his life. Like the Disney movie Aladdin, where a man finds a lamp with a genie in it that will grant him three wishes, the story “The Third Wish” by Joan Aiken a man also received three wishes because he was a very grateful and very deserving person.

Since the man in the story used his wishes wisely he did not use the third wish, unlike the movie Aladdin where he did not use his wishes wisely. He used the first one to be a prince, to let the genie go and to go back to the man he was. In the story he used the first wish to wish for a wife as beautiful as the forest, the second to wish her back to a swan so she could live with her sister.

Whenever you reserve three wishes you might want to think of what your wishes are before you them. So in life you want to be more like the man in The Three Wishes because if you want to me a good person like Mr. Peter’s, that would be a good choice.

The Circuit

Imagine you are driving down the road and you see many groups of poor immigrants working in the huge farming fields. They work all day in extremely hot weather, working harder then they should just to eat that day. They are fighting dehydration in the blazing rays of the hot sun knowing that they will be paid under minimum wage that day. The short story “The Circuit” helps the reader realize that if you want to achieve family happiness you must make sacrifices for the people you love and care about.
Sometimes it is very hard for some people to grasp that your family is one of a kind and you will not get a new family. When you make the sacrifices for your family, most of the time it helps for you to form a closer bond and make the love that you have for each other stronger. In the short story “The Circuit” the family is on the road and move many times a year for their work so they can have enough money for their four kids. If you have enough money for you and one or two kids why would you have two or three more, just to make it harder it on yourselves and the rest of your family They go through a lot of good and bad stuff together as a family.
In the family there are four kids, Panchito and his one older sibling and two younger siblings. That is a lot of kids and who live in a little garage that has dirt for the floor where they sleep, eat and live. Panchito gets to go to school for a little bit while his three siblings do not get to and they have to stay home with the oldest brother is work with his dad in the farming fields. Why should one of the four kids be able to go to school and the other three are stuck at home with their parents. When Panchito was at school he became really close with one of the teachers he was teaching him how to read English because he was Spanish. He should not get to close to the teacher because he forgot that his family moves a lot. These two story The Pearl and the “The Circuit” ,are very much a like because in The Pearl the main character forgot that he was poor and when he found a pearl that was worth a lot of money her know he had money now so he forgot who he was. They are also alike because they both forgot about their surroundings and much more.
You can make your family happier and closer by making sacrifices for the people you love and care about. “The Circuit is a very good short story because it has a great purpose: it teaches you a lesson and is very well written it kind of leaves you hanging and makes you think about making up your own ending.
